چکیده | ||
Background: Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMTD) refers to a group of hereditary motor and sensory neuropathies with a prevalence of about 1 per 2,500 population. The commonest feature of this disease is muscle weakness and impaired sensation in the extremities. However, various presentations can be observed in heterogeneous diseases included in this disease group, such as infection and ulcer in the foot. Case presentation: Here, in this case report study, we report an 18-year-old lady who was referred to us with a non-healing ulcer on the plantar surface of her right foot and was diagnosed with CMTD, based on the history of sensory and motor symptoms and the results of electromyography. Her ulcer healed successfully after five sessions of extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT). Conclusion: Besides the significance of paying attention to patient’s symptoms for diagnosis of CMTD, this case presented the efficacy of ESWT on wound healing of a non-healing ulcer in the setting of CMTD. Further studies are required for verifying this treatment as the standard of care in such patients. | ||
