Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a debilitating situation which imposes a large socio-economic burden on patients and society. One of the most important disorders that may occur in these patients and cause an increase in the disease burden is secondary complications. This study aimed to investigate the level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of patients with SCI on secondary complications. Method: The current cross-sectional study assessed the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of patients with spinal cord injury about secondary complications. Patients with SCI were identified through the hospital information system. Data were collected through a questionnaire that included demographic and clinical information and a three-part questionnaire including knowledge, attitude, and practice. Results: one hundred eighty patients participated in the present study. The findings showed moderate level of knowledge, attitude, and practice with the mean respectively 84.12, 13.62, and 21.5 in patients with SCI. Conclusion: The level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of the patients trough potential complications of spinal cord injury, were moderate. There is a significant relationship between knowledge, attitude, and practice with education. Also, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and sex. There was no significant relationship between age with knowledge and practice, but there was a reverse relationship between age and attitude. | ||
