Objectives: Appendicitis is the most common cause of acute abdominal pain requiring surgical intervention, which can lead to complications in the patient if not diagnosed in time. Considering the above, this study aimed to investigate the incidence and risk factors for post-appendectomy surgical site infection. Method: This retrospective study was conducted by studying the records of patients hospitalized in Ilam hospitals during the period 2021-2022 who were hospitalized for appendicitis surgery. The research tool included a demographic profile form and a research checklist. After obtaining the code of ethics in research from the university, the researcher visited the hospital in person and extracted the required data from the patient's clinical file (in accordance with the research checklist). Then, the desired data was entered into the SPSS16 software and data analysis was performed. Results: According to the findings, only 180 of the reviewed files met the inclusion criteria. Also, the rate of SSI in patients was 28 (15.6%). According to the findings, out of the 28 patients with SSI symptoms, 19 (67.9%) were male, 8 (28.6%) had blood type A-, 18 (64.3%) had BMI in the Low range, and 19 (67.9%) had fever less than 38 degrees. Conclusion: According to the findings, given that the incidence rate in this study was high, it is therefore essential that necessary preventive measures be taken to prevent SSI. | ||
