چکیده
Abstract
Objectives: Chevron osteotomy could be fixed by various techniques with different outcomes. The aim of the current study was to determine the complications and outcomes caused by Chevron osteotomy fixed with tension band wire in distal humeral fractures.
Method: In this prospective study, patients operated in Shahid Rajaei and Shahid Chamran Hospitals in Shiraz from October 2018 to October 2023, who underwent Chevron osteotomy surgery for distal intra-articular fractures of the humerus, were included. Osteotomy fusion was determined according to the available radiographs in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) system. Other complications were also assessed during periodic examinations of the patients.
Results: Sixty patients with a mean age of 44.6 years (± 18.14), including 23 (38.3%) women, were included in the study. In all patients, the olecranon osteotomy had complete union, and no cases of infection or fixation failure were observed. In three cases, the applied pins and wires were removed. Additionally, irritation caused by the hardware was observed in 22 patients (36.7%).
Conclusion: Comparing these results with the reports of other studies, it was concluded that the tension band wiring method, could have an acceptable outcome. Despite challenges caused by hardwire irritation, high rates of bony union could be expected. However, further studies are necessary to directly compare two or more fixation techniques in one center.
